EL MICHELS AFFAIR MEETS LIAM BAILEY ANGEL FACE

The underground New York label Big Crown explain, "There has always been a Reggae influence in the music of El Michels Affair. From their cover of 'Hung Up On My Baby' done in a Reggae style, to the general sound and approach that permeates Leon’s production style". So, it would seem a foolproof idea for El Michels Affair to up with label mate Liam Bailey. The two musicians have formed a hybrid named El Michels Affair Meets Liam Bailey, and the result is as sublime as you'd imagine. Today the supergroup release the album Ekundayo Inversions. Many of the songs were already out in the run-up, but the marvellous 'Angel Face' is fresh to our ears. Sunshine guitar hits meet scattered percussion and off-beat piano hits. The thumping of the drums locks in with the bass, whilst brass and twisted guitar lines unravel around Liam Bailey's soulful outpouring. Warped and woozy, the track is dub through-and-through, but presented through a modern lens. Listen here! -Ellie Rose-Davies
